Covington, Washington (July 4, 2017) – Attorney Kim E. Hunter, one of the most trusted criminal defense lawyers serving the South King County, has recently been elected to the Washington State Bar Association’s (WSBA) Board of Governors. She will be representing the 8th District and about 3000 WSBA members in parts of South and East King County. Ms. Hunter is honored to be elected by the constituency of the district to such a prestigious position.
The WSBA is an integral part of the judicial branch, authorized by the Washington State Supreme Court to exercise a governmental function and license approximately 35,000 lawyers within the state. It is also responsible for regulating lawyers under the authority of Court, with the Board of the Governors as its primary governing body. The Board determines the general policies of the Bar and approves the WSBA’s annual budget.
The Board of Governors consists of several key members, including the president, president-elect, immediate past president, members from each congressional state’s district and three at-large members. Some committees and governors also serve as liaisons to the board. All esteemed members work together to fulfill the mission of the WSBA – to be in service of the public and the members of the Bar, ensure the integrity of the legal profession, and to champion justice. With monumental responsibilities to both the Bar and the public, each member of the Board of Governors has to have the credentials and experience necessary for their positions.
Attorney Kim Hunter is a graduate of Gonzaga Law School where she competed with other law schools in a Trial Competition and actively participated in many volunteer programs. Her past work experience includes interning for the Center of Law and Justice and the Spokane Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. She is a member of both the WSBA and the King County Bar Association. Ms. Hunter is also a four-time recipient of the Washington Rising Star award from the Super Lawyers Magazine, and has been named a “Super Lawyer” by the same publication since 2015.
Aside from being a member of the Board of Governors, Attorney Kim Hunter also serves as the chair-elect for the Criminal law section of the WSBA. They represent all criminal lawyers, and according to her, “…the goal is to get prosecutors, defense attorneys, judges and law enforcement to work together to improve and facilitate the practice of criminal law.”
